Coffee farmers are an important part of China's coffee industry, mainly distributed in major coffee producing areas such as Pu'er City, Baoshan City, and Longling County in Yunnan Province. Pu'er City has established a benefit linkage mechanism through the "enterprise+village collective+coffee farmers" model, and the per capita coffee income of coffee farmers will increase from 3836 yuan to 7512 yuan from 2021 to 2024. Longling County promotes scientific planting technology, with an average household coffee income of 27000 yuan (2024 data). Xinzhai Village implements a plan to improve premium coffee varieties, and Longyang District promotes the standardized development of the coffee industry through negotiations between courtyards. With the construction of standardized demonstration parks and the transformation of medium and low yield parks, the efficiency of coffee cultivation has significantly improved, and the coffee tourism integration model has driven rural revitalization
Main production areas and scale
Yunnan Province is a core gathering area for coffee farmers in China. As of 2024, the coffee planting area in Pu'er City has reached 679000 mu, and the planting area in Longling County has increased to 25657 mu, involving 26 villages and communities in 6 townships. Xinzhai Village, Lujiang Town, Longyang District, Baoshan City, is known as the "Number One Coffee Village in China". 99% of the farmers in the village grow coffee (2018 data), and as of 2024, they are gradually implementing a plan to improve premium coffee varieties.
Industrial development and measures to increase income
Pu'er City has established a "enterprise+village collective+coffee farmer" joint agricultural belt mechanism, which will drive coffee farmers to increase their income to 7512 yuan/person in the 2022-2023 season. Longling County adopts the "Party Organization+Enterprise+Cooperative+Farmers" model, with an average household income of 27000 yuan in 2024. Wang Jiawei, Secretary of the Xinzhai Village Party Branch, led the coffee farmers to implement large-scale planting and strive for funds to improve infrastructure (as of 2018). Yeping in Menglian County established a coffee cooperative, with an annual output of 120 tons in a 2070 acre coffee plantation (2021 data)
